Virtual School Changes for the 2nd Semester

Upon a thorough review of the first semester's Virtual School program, the district has elected to make some significant adjustments to the course offerings available to our students learning online.  Based on teacher availability and capacity as well as overall student participation and performance in the fall semester, the framework for Virtual School in the spring semester will be as follows:

  •     Virtual School students' four core content classes (English, math, science, and social studies) will continue to be offered at the appropriate academic level (i.e. level or advanced).
  •     Virtual School students' core content classes may be scheduled during different periods from the first semester.
  •     Virtual School students will now only have limited electives options:

7th Grade Electives

8th Grade Electives

STAAR Prep - Math

College & Career Readiness

STAAR Prep - Math/Algebra I*

*Students enrolled in Spanish I or in certain intervention programs will be enrolled in a virtual option or alternative. Please contact your counselor for more details.

  •      The STAAR Prep and Spanish courses will be administered via Edgenuity, which is a third-party content platform. These courses will be monitored but not administered by an MISD teacher.
We realize that this alteration to our electives options is not ideal for many of our virtual students who may have been looking forward to a specific course this spring.  However, this is not a campus decision but a change happening district-wide in order to allocate staffing resources appropriately.  We regret the disappointment this might cause, but please know that we are fully committed to continuing to deliver a comprehensive core content program through the remainder of this year.
If you and your child decide at some point that you would prefer to participate in on-campus instruction, you may fill out the Learning Transfer Form available on our website two weeks before the end of each marking period.  The Learning Transfer Form for the beginning of the spring semester is available now on our website or can be accessed by clicking HEREIf you have any questions or need clarifications, please contact your child’s grade-level counselor.
