While the current situation prevents us from honoring our students in the way we’d prefer, my hope is the event we’ve organized will give your soon-to-be high school freshmen a sense of closure and remind them how much we valued the time they spent learning and growing at MJH.
Below are all the details on this event and the specifics on how our outgoing 8th grade students and parents can participate:
Date & Time
Thursday, June 11th
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Magnolia Junior High car-rider line
Head west on Sanders St. to enter the loop that leads traffic to the sidewalk on the east side of MJH. There will be no access from Nichols Sawmill Rd.
Vehicles will follow the car-rider line loop to the Check-In Station (see the map below). At the Check-In Station, vehicles will stop and give the staff member the name(s) of their student. Students who have an award to pick up will be notified at the Check-In Station and directed to pull off into the Awards Area just after the entrance.
After the Check-In Station, cars will continue around the loop and drive under the first hanging banner. Cars are encouraged to have their windows down so that students and teachers can see each other, wave, and exchange well wishes from a safe distance. Cars instructed to visit the Awards Area will turn to the left just after the banner and follow the cones. All others will continue straight until they reach the Flash Drive Pick-Up Zone, which will be marked.
Once in the Flash Drive Pick-Up Zone, a staff member will come out to meet each car with an envelope containing a commemorative flash drive that includes the special video produced for the 8th grade class of 2020. At this point, vehicles will proceed forward towards the exit, which will be marked by a second hanging banner.
While the whole experience is planned to be short and sweet, it will hopefully provide students with a chance to say goodbye to MJH and for the faculty and staff of MJH to send them off to high school on a positive note.Students unable to attend that evening will receive their flash drive in the mail later this summer.
