Welcome Back! Here's what you need to know for the first day...

Welcome Back!

IF YOU WERE IN BAND LAST YEAR at MJH or Magnolia 6th……

  • You should already have played an audition in May for your class placement.
  • Your schedule indicates the correct band class for Fall, 2017.
  • Some (very few) students had to be placed into a different class period from the one they auditioned for due to schedule conflicts with other required classes/athletics. If you think you might be one of these, I will be happy to help you figure it out.
  • If you use a school-owned instrument, we will do instrument checkouts in class on the 2nd
  • Students with prior band experience will be issued a locker on the 2nd day of class. (Locks are provided.)

IF YOU ARE NEW TO MAGNOLIA – JUST MOVED HERE, BUT YOU’VE BEEN IN BAND BEFORE

  • Welcome!
  • If we knew you were coming and you auditioned back in May, your schedule should be correct.
  • If you did NOT play an audition for us, you were placed in a band period which may not be appropriate for your ability level.
  • Students new to Magnolia who have not auditioned will have an opportunity to audition for us by the end of the 2nd week of school, at which time we’ll move to you to a more appropriate level if necessary.
  • If you use a school-owned instrument, we will do instrument checkouts in class on the 2nd
  • Students with prior band experience will be issued a locker on the 2nd day of class. (Locks are provided.)

IF YOU ARE NEW TO BAND……

  • We will help you choose the instrument you will learn during the first week of school. Once we have determined what you are playing, we’ll help you get your instrument and supplies.
  • Some instruments are provided by the school, some you get from local instrument stores.
  • All students will need to purchase their book and some supplies related to their instrument – the supply lists are provided once your instrument assignment is made.

ALL BAND STUDENTS – what to bring the first day.

The only thing you need to bring on the first day is a pencil.  Okay, I lied – a pencil and a GOOD ATTITUDE.  (Because we’re going to do awesome stuff!).  Here is another list in case you missed it:

Things to bring on Day 1:

  • Pencil
  • Good attitude

I can’t wait to see you again (or meet you) next week!  2017-18 is going to be GREAT!!!!
